OM5 fiber supports shortwave wave division multiplexing (SWDM) technology that reduces the number of parallel cores to a quarter, enabling 40Gbps and 100Gbps Ethernet transmission rates to be met with just two cores instead of eight, thereby reducing the total number of cores required for high-speed applications.
